Hailed as India's No.1 tennis player, Sumit Nagal created history by being the first Indian to beat a seeded player in the ‘Australian Open’ 2024, main draw match after 35 years. He also has been acclaimed for his historic achievement as the first Indian in seven years to not only reach the 'Singles Grand Slam' but also emerge victorious in the main draw match.
Sumit’s journey in tennis commenced at the age of 8 when he caught the eye of former doubles No. 1, Mahesh Bhupathi, who selected him to join his academy. Undergoing rigorous training, Sumit's dedication culminated in securing the boys' doubles title at ‘Wimbledon’ in 2015.
Notably, Sumit played a pivotal role in restoring India's standing in the ‘Davis Cup World’ 2023 Group Play-off tie against Denmark. Stepping up after Yuki Bhambri's setback in the opening match, Sumit clinched victory in the second singles. In his recent achievements, Sumit paved his way into the ‘Australian Open’ 2024 in the main draw of Men’s Singles.

Sumit became the first Indian to win two ATP Challenger Titles, ‘Garden Open ATP 75’, and ‘Tampere Challenger – ATP 75’ on European soil. Sumit also won two matches against the Top 100 Players -Albert Romas and Rusuuvuori. He gained massive popularity, as he took a set off the legendary Roger Federer in the US Open, becoming the first-ever Indian to do so.
